Jewish Free Loans

On February 1, 2009, Jewish Federation, in partnership with Jewish Free Loan Association of Los Angeles, launched the Jewish Free Loan Association/Orange County.

Although one’s initial impression of Orange County might be that it is a community of wealthy families and individuals, the reality is that our Jewish population covers a wide socio-economic and demographic range. Interest-free loans will be available for a myriad of needy situations including personal finance challenges and medical expenses. JFLA/OC is also a resource for loans for higher education, Jewish camping, Israel experiences and the Chasin Family Micro-Enterprise Free Loan Fund for small business.

JFLA-OC loan programs will impact lives, change lives, and save lives. For a list of loan types and more information click here.

Federation Responds to Economic Crisis

February 2009

According to the Orange County Business Journal, Orange County is experiencing the highest rate of unemployment since the recession in the early 1990s. Jewish Federation Orange County is taking extraordinary steps to ensure availability of lifeline services to assist individuals and families in immediate distress in the Jewish community.

"It is alarming to see past Federation donors now seeking emergency financial assistance, as their savings and investments are being wiped out, " shared Federation CEO Shalom C. Elcott.

Layoffs are leaving many employees and their families living on the edge for the first time in ther lives - unable to make rent or mortgage payments, to purchase medications, and more. Now, many are turning to the Jewish community for food, financial assistance, counseling,  and employment services for themselves and their families. "The Generations Fund of Federation supports our Community Partners, who in turn provide essential programs that serve our community memberse on a daily basis. Due to the economic slowdown, the needs are now even greater," said Elcott.

Federation is intensifying efforts to engage donors in supporting essential resources, through the Generations Fund, to meet the challenges that face our community. We are working with the leadership of our community to mobilize every available resource to meet growing needs.
